THE FIRST STONE
the studio, built like the work.
a studio that sells websites is, in effect, always on display, so we built ours to the standard we offer.

cloudflare pages
we designed a full identity system before a single line of code. we called it Monument & Breath. then we wrote the behavior down as rules, and shipped a site that refuses to break them. one accent per view. no shadows, no gradients, no rounded corners. five typefaces held to strict registers.
the result is a specimen-sheet aesthetic: clinical metadata in three of four corners, hairline rules, crop marks, a horizon bar that doubles as the navigation. the site reads like an artifact. which is the claim we wanted it to make.
the rule set
the identity was written down before the interface. monument, breath, one accent, no decoration — four rules, each backed by a specific refusal. what the studio will not do is as load-bearing as what it will. the rules stay pinned to a page we re-read before every design decision.
the engineering
it ships as static HTML with zero client JavaScript by default, loads under 200ms on a cold cache, and is editable through markdown content collections. content lives in git. not a proprietary cms anyone will have to migrate out of in three years.
the goal was a site that felt pulled from an archive nobody had opened in a century, but that also happened to load in under 200ms on a mid-tier phone.
the stack is astro with tailwind v4. mdx for longform. self-hosted fonts via @fontsource. deployed to cloudflare pages. no analytics beyond a single tag. no third-party bloat.
what it proves
the site is the first piece of evidence that the studio can deliver what it promises. every other plate in this register will be held to the same standard.
